You've probably heard by now about the Sea World trainer who was killed by an orca (if not - check out this article).
So that begs a broader question - should humans keep large and powerful animals in captivity, and then use them as entertainers?

I think that in a way its ok to hold animals in captivity, but thats only if they cant survive on there own in the wild.

ReplyDeleteYes. Entertainment is the only thing that matters. If people aren't happy, they go on to do much more violent things against other humans. Animals are the perfect sacrifice for a safe world.

People love to watch animals preform their tricks and watch them swim and I will admit that I like it myself, but I think for the animals safety I think we should not have them locked up in a tank filled in water when they can they be in the fresh ocean, i believe dogs and cats and other small animals are a different story.

and use humans as toys along as we do.
If any animals stay in capivity its either to help them if they are injured or to help them
bring back their population.

yes its good in some cases to keep large animals in captivity so that no one else gets hurt. it there out in the oceans and things other people could be killed by them and no one would ever know.

I think they should hold animals in captivity because it protects others from getting hurt and trains them alot of times to be more tolerant to humans.

I think it's fine, considering the safety of the entertainers and the audience. The deaths by these incidents are very low, and even lower when in comparison to the population of the United States, or even the world population. I don't think one rare case should be able to make such a economical and leisurely business lose high profits.
ReplyDeleteThink about this. How many people have died using a vehicle? In American, you have to have a license to drive. This could be because they are dangerous, and you must be trained to use them. One person once said to me that we all drive 'missiles' around everyday to work. There are many more cases of deaths concerning vehicles than deaths by Orca-whale accidents. Should humans keep powerful cars, or weapons, "in captivity"? Especially when some people haven't been trained...

HELL!!!! No you should not keep any animals in captivity... they have rights too... us humans are always messing wit there atmosphere..why dont we just leave them the F$#% alone and let them do them...dang we are the the main factor why some animals are extinct!!!!! so let the animals be free....

I understand the whole entertainment thing but then again is a person's life worth it when it can be an alternitive for the animals? If they were born in the wild let the STAY in the wild. It's never that deep to lose your life over.We do what we want so animals should too, besides harm people which would be rare if people leave them the heck alone....
ReplyDeleteI don't see a real big problem with SeaWorld and what they do because until someone is hurt, which is a risk that person is taking when they sign up for the job, we as humans do not think twice about the dangers of what we do. Accidents happen everyday but life still has to go on...

ReplyDeleteNo i dont think that people should keep overlarge animals locked and in captivity because in some shape or form it always ends up in tragedy so I think it would be a better idea to keep them free or at least let them out in a while.

I say all animals should not be keep in captivity no matter have big or small they are. Every animal should be able to live in its own habitat being able to do what every the animals want.

ReplyDeleteThis relates to the broader question, should animals be kept in captivity for entertainment? I say it doesnt matter as long as the animals are well cared for. Also the SeaWorld workers should know the risks for signing up for the job.

ReplyDeleteWell I dont think that we should keep wild animals for entertainment. It drives me nuts that people are shocked that the whale did it. Its a wild animal what do you expect?
They shouldn't be kept in captivity because they can turn out to be extremely dangerous if they're not in there natural environment.

ReplyDeletethey should continue to use these animals as entertainment as well as other things they are doing, these animals are also breeding and showing other levels of communication with humans,another stage in science that many people are experimanting with wether or not animals can communicate and other things like that and these animals have shown these, as well these animals are safer in the captivity rather than in the ocean were oil spills, and hunters are to pray on them with there population facing possible extinction*. Whales arent the only things that are dangerous just because of there size there are other trainers like lions and bears... These are freak accidents and shouldnt be blamed on the habitat that the snimal is in because it is a good place and a safe place for them.....

Im not so sure. Shows with animals are indigenous to certain areas of the US depending on what it is. Liiiike, when you go to Florida you can see Manatee's &Whales. So this draws in tourists, thus resulting in a major profit. However, I still think that an animal has a right to live normally in it naturally intended environment.

They can if they want to..but they should becareful with big animals....becuase with the person that died at sea world..... i think they gave him derict order not to swim with the whale but he or she didn't listen so to the whale it thought it was lunch time......

I agree with Morgan Collins.
ReplyDeleteIts okay to hold an animal in captivity if it means their survival. (or helps to preserve them). National Parks/reserves are a decent alternative to the entertainment captivity.
