Wednesday - Guns, guns, guns

Check out this article on gun control - the Supreme Court might "strike down U.S. cities' outright bans on handguns, a ruling that could establish a nationwide ownership right..."

Where do you weigh in? Would this country be a safer place if we had stricter controls of guns, or would it be safer if everybody had the right to pack heat?

My favorite post from Tuesday ... too many to pick just one - lots of funny ones (like only losers need an incentive to do what is obviously right and lots of hate on the after party with all the references to its "lameness", and of course I love all the comments along the lines of - "free food, count me in!" (that last one is one of the core values that I live my life by - no joking).

"If I were a junior I wouldn't need any motivation because I would go anyway, so that I can graduate. ~~Morgan McCoy"

"Jac Erickson said...

Depends what they got at this after party, I dont play that cookies and punch stuff. Maybe a lil disco ball action and potato skins XD"

"Jose Silva said...

Maybe it will motivare me but it depends on what is at the "after party". If there is food then im there."

"Valerie Forrest said...

Last year when I was a junior, the fact that the MME was a graduation requirement was enough motivation for me, not some fancy partyy. I think that it is a good idea though for the juniors because students this year don't seem to care as much about graduating on time."

(i.e. "Us Seniors were tough winners, you juniors are soft bums" lol)

  2. i agree with the stricter gun laws.
but then again, if somebody is really that set to kill someone, what's keeping them from using a kitchen knife? weapons are everywhere. but i think better gun laws would help.

  3. I think that the right to bear arms is one that should not be taken away. It would not be a bad thing, however, if there was a strict, secure way to come about getting them.

  5. That Would not Be a good idea.
What If someone broke into your house how will you defend yourself?
Pretty so we will be hunting with only slingshots but congress will try to ban those because they are "dangerous"

  6. I think regulations on who can buy them (ie. no criminal record) are okay, but I don't think banning them is a good idea. Then only criminals who had guns illegally anyway, and police have handguns, and the first outnumbers the latter greatly. Even though my family doesn't own a gun, I think its safer (and the constitution) guarantees the right for citizens to bear arms, for their protection. After all, if a man breaks into your home and he's got a gun, how is a citizen supposed to proctect themself? If their dog/cat is attacked (or they don't have one), their kids are home, and knowing the police won't show up until at least 5 minutes after you can get to a phone.

  7. I feel like its all in the situation, like at the moment I agree with stricter gun laws but how are you gonna feel if you needed that gun to survive?

  8. This country would definitely not be safer if everyone had easy access to guns. If guns are already a problem, it would be soooo much better for everyone to have one or two or five. Heck, why not give every child a gun as well? Surely, they, too, need protection, no?

    Bad idea.

  9. The world would be safer witout guns because now days people use guns for more than protection. some people are not licensed and kill for situtations that can be solved.

  10. I think that this country would be a safer place if we had stricter gun control because then the unauthorized people wouldn't be able to have guns and then use them for something that isn't really a big issue (like arguing with your neighbor)~~Morgan McCoy

  11. I think that the guns rights are fine where they are now. I think if you make it to easy to get one then people will start buying guns just to have them for fun. They should keep gun restrictions the way they are today, besides i bet 90% of the world has never even seen a gun in person, and deffinitly not shot one. People would go around getting killed by their own guns.

  12. Everyone should have the right to own a gun but that does not mean everyone is going to go out and buy a gun. Most guns that are used in crimes are not legal in the first place so even if you outlaw all hand guns, criminals are still going to find ways to get them and we wouldn't have anyway of protecting ourselves.

  14. Um... Not really sure. I think that there would probably be less shootings if there were sticter rules on guns. But i dont think there would be less violence.

  16. I dont think they should have stricter laws on guns because the laws are fine the way they are. Many people feel alot safer in there own home if they have a fire arm. I know that many fathers feel like they can better protect their family if they have a gun in there home.

  17. The world would be a safer place if we had stricter control on guns but when I think about my family, it's a different story. I think that every family should have a gun at their home because it's better to be safe.

  18. The "right to bare arms" shouldn't be taken so literally. It implies that everyone has the right to defend themselves within reason. I think the Supreme Court should enact stricter laws on gun regulation.

Quite frankly, I don't see the point in anyone owning a gun to begin with. If you're that worried about where you live, then move. If its for hunting--well, no one should hunt. Anyways, to answer the question: yes, I think it'd be safer to take guns out of the picture.

  19. I think that the world would be a safer place if there was stricter laws on gun control but when I think of my family, my decisions change. I think that every family should have a gun in their home because it would be the safe thing.

  20. I personally believe that every person should have an arsenal, once an apocalyptic event occurs, the survivors will need to defend themselves from raiders, any left over wild animals, and possibly even zombies. Guns are an artificial adaptation.

  21. - I think it would make a safer world and environment but i also think about how my family may be if someone were to come across someone with a gun.. then my whole mind set changes so really idk.

  26. I think that in some cases that It would be safer because people wudnt be able to access them easily. there would be heavier restrictions and people couldnt shoot people or do bottly harm to anybody. Then on the otherhand i feel like people who break into peoples house and other acts of crimes people will have no self defense if they need it and that can be very devastating and risky.

  27. There should be a legal age in which you can have a gun in someones passesion without a permit..but if your under the legal age you have to take a gun class and have a permit..So when they get to the legal age they can have some experence with one and carry it without a permit..and they should make some laws on when you can use it only when needed.

  32. I also agree that stricter gun laws should be enforced. But we still need to think about the people that do own guns legally &use them properly.
There sould be some kind of compromise.
