Tuesday - The Importance of Silence

I read a great excerpt the other day from a soon to be released book, In Pursuit of Silence: Listening for Meaning in a World of Noise. The author, George Prochnik, reminds us of what we all innately must know; silence is indeed golden, and for many reasons.

Check out this simple web site titled the Importance of Silence ... the author lists 5 things that make silence important ... What would you add to the list? Why and when is silence important to you?

My Favorite comment from yesterday ... (it's my favorite because of what she learned - paying it forward ... great topic for a future blog post ... also would be a good weekly wrap up story!

  1. It's not my fault that people are JUST finding out about the benefits of silence. I thought it was supposed to come naturally but I guess it takes... practice?

  3. I think a thing about silence is that it can bring insanity. I could never imagine living without sounds, or any kind of noise, obviously some people can because some people are deaf but i think it would one of the hardest things to do.

  16. Silence...I'm kinda scared of it.
Usually when there is complete silence theres like an impending storm ready to burst forth.
Then again silence is nice because then its the blank noise that makes everything better when for example everything has gone really really Xinfinity bad.

  17. I believe that silence is the best way to clear your head and get away from all the drama. You need it to help you make importaint well thought out choices. It also creats a happier invrionment for you to live in so that your not livinng in such a stressful way all the time. I honestly dont think I coulf live without silence and time to myself without going absolutely nuts.

  20. Silence huh? No comments on this one because this is more of a religious act, the way i think of it. I think it is more religious because you're being slient for a reason, it may go against religious thoughts or not.

  21. Silence, although sometimes awkward, is very important. It gives you a chance to have a conversation with yourself. When your mouth is open, usually your ears are not,so in order for one to truly listen, there needs to be a point of silence.I like there to be silence when I am in deep thought.

  31. Silence would help lot of people who like to pay attention they could listen better and think better it helps a lot to focus on what u need to focus. I cant do be silence I have to talk but there is people who could do it and those people who doesnt like to talk a lot or likes to read lot. The only time I could be silence or silence helps me when I am mad or angry then I could focus why I am mad or what made me mad its helps me to be calm thats only time I love silence otherwise never

  34. I think silence is important when you're upset. A lot of the time when a person is really mad about something, they say things they don't mean. So if when you were mad you just stayed quite, you'd not only prevent yourself from regretting being rude to someone, but you'd have personal time to resolve your problem & think it out clearly. =)
