Short summary of the transformation plan:
1. A longer day for students that are behind in credits, enabling them to get back on track in time for graduation.
2. A 30 minute “advisory” period during the school day, which is not an academic class, but a period to support achievement in all the students’ courses, as well as a time that can be used in new ways to try and build a positive school culture.
3. Half days throughout the school year (about two per month) which will be used by teachers for workshop time, as well as by students for extracurricular activities and events.
4. More literacy and numeracy strategies in all the subject areas to help students become better readers, writers, and interpreters of information.
So here’s where you, the students come in:
What would you want from an “advisory” period? What would it look like, and how would it work?
Advisory is meant to be a time to help students with their academic needs, prepare them for life outside of and after high school, and to create a more positive climate at Eastern.
With that in mind, what are your recommendations for advisory?

welp* who wants to stay in school longer? hrm... but it is a good start to try and use that "ADVISORY" to help people with their loss credits.
ReplyDeletebut would this really help skippers? they should provide some snacks, just to gett'em to go to that extra 30 min class to help them with.
who know how people are? if there is free food, why wouldnt you want to go??? :D

Think something...they act like students are soo dumb..so they do it themselve...
ReplyDelete-Pa Vang
Maybe a recommendation for advisory would be creating a lock down hallway for skippers to stop skipping school.
ReplyDeleteit should be a study session. and a check in period for students

ReplyDeleteI think the new plans are great but it's all up to the kids becasue half of them don't want to learn so that means it's not only up to the teachers to make the new plan work, the kids here are going to have to want to take advantage of the new goals and plans set out for them.
I think the final hour (half hour) of the day should be used for either homework (since once I get home, I really don't want to do school work)
ReplyDeleteOr it can be used as a sort of life skills class or something where we learn how to do things that will help us in life like balance a checkbook, how to properly read a contract and look for faults and such, and the like.
I don't really care! I won't be here next year! Yay, seniors!
ReplyDeleteJust kidding. I still have family and friends that will be here.
For an advisory period I personally would want it as a time to maybe do homework or take care of issues like needing to talk to a counselor or teacher. Things like that can be hard to fit in a normal school day without missing class, especially if you ride the bus.

GREAT IDEA :)
ReplyDeleteI Personally Believe This Plan Is Wonderful...
Everyone Needs Help Or @ Least Advice...
How Exactly Are Staff Going To Get Skippers To Class Though...?
Unless There Was Some Sort Of Reward For Attending...?
A longer school day huh... Well, it could be worse, we could all be dead.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe that I would gain anything at all from this "advisory period". In my view, it is a waste of time...

ReplyDeleteI like what Lauren Wicke said. I ride the bus, so I try very hard not to get behind so that I don't have to stay afterschool to catch up. When I see my counselor, I try to during a season I do a sport so that I don't miss my bus. It's nice that teachers stay after school for kids to make up work, or to study. I think the teachers dedication would be much more appreciated if this plan was in action.
This time would be great for groups and clubs to meet, as well as a time to do homework. The time in the 1-hour lunch period was often used for clubs to meet years ago; I think this would make up for that loss.
i would get cought up on my other class work or get help on other subjects :)
ReplyDeletewell the way i would transform the 2011-2012 school year is by tackling on the skippers and get them into class....give and extra 30min or so to have kids just relax and do missing work
ReplyDeleteI'm a senior & getting out this year, but then it sounds a lot better & more helpful for people. I wish it was here this year. It would be helpful for students to catch up, get unfinished tests done, group work, practice or meetings or for teachers to get extra things done as well. Though it would be a hassle to people who have jobs and/or no time to really stay yet another hour of the day. Ya know? If they made it required then it would change but if not, then not many won't sign up til later like 2nd semester.
ReplyDelete- Karla Geci- Call 3rd Hour
i think that is good idea, so students can cought up on their assignments and their homework. Their is a time where you don`t have a time to do your homework in your house.
ReplyDeleteWaaat?? Man thats wierd...
ReplyDeleteThe class could be good for getting work done... But im sure it will wind up as more of a social hour and therefore a waste of school funding if there is little or vague structure behind it.
What about staffing? Are some teachers going to be working double? Well, we could give the janitors a chance to instruct...
If this hour is "not an academic class, but a period to support achievement" (whatever that means) will it be based on attendance?
I hope this whole thing isn't a waste of time, money and resources.
-Juaquin
All it is is Study Hall. If you don't need some time like that, it's just going to be annoying...
ReplyDeleteIt might be helpful to some people...
ReplyDeleteThe class should be used to do work from all of your classes...there should be people there to help us also. Honestly i think it is just another class for people to skip.
ReplyDeleteI guess the class could be used for catching up on your work you didnt finish in class, or overdue work. There should also be ppl in there to help kids on stuff. Most people will probably skip, and slack off in the class anyways.
ReplyDeleteI think it should be like a food class. like you can cook the food and then you get ot eat it. because i be gettin TOO hungry during the day.
ReplyDeleteI think this time should be used as a study hall. A place where people can work on homewor, missing assignments, study for tests, ect..
ReplyDeletewelll idk cuz i never heard of this till today so i couldnt tell you what i would like to do so i would say let the faliures who failed pay for this
ReplyDeleteEastern heading towards the right direction two dumbs way up!
ReplyDeleteI think the advisory class should be like a study hall because students who dont have much time to get homework done with at least be able to do some at school. Other then that I think the advisory is a good thing.
ReplyDeletethe free lunch and advisory and plus it seem more of a positive atmosphere now
ReplyDeletei think advisory will help me a lot this year but the negative is people clown around and they jokes aren't funny the positive is it will help me reach my goals
