Thursday - Death Penalty

Maybe you have been following the recent high profile death penalty case of Troy Davis - well he was executed last night ... How do you feel about the death penalty - should the government have the right to execute its own citizens under certain circumstances? Where do you stand on the death penalty and why.

  1. No death penalty. Spending your entire life in a maximum security prison is just as bad as being killed.

  3. WHAT?!?!?! that man is not guilty at all my brothers! little.... unjust... court cases.... makes me wanna be lawyer just to prove he wasn't guilty... but sad how he go killed now.

  4. Yea i feel the government does have the authority because if you kill someone without an actual reason such as self defense, you don't deserve to live. If you killed more than one person you shouldn't have the right to live you gave up that right when they murdered someone but that's just my opinion.

  5. kenny blackburn...

i think that it is wrong just because they did something wrong taking their life is just as wrong.. so throw them in max security and put them in an isolated cell and i guarantee that would be alot worse than being dead

  6. I think that states shouldn't be able to execute their inmates for multiple reasons.

One of the reasons is if you want an inmate to suffer about his or her crimes, then you shouldn't give them the easy way out.

The other reason is because in case the inmate is found to actually be innocent, that gives time for the investigators to find that out, instead of executing them soon.

  7. There is no or not enough evidence, so he could be an innocent man that got killed for no just reason.

  8. I think putting him in jail for a long time would've been more miserable than being killed.

  9. The right to take a life. What entity has any more rights than another? For a government to have a justice system in which a death penalty is a punishment isn't necessarily right or wrong, but may have a benefit towards society or may hurt it. If anything, there are people that feel war gives good reason to take a life. What is the real difference? Their death is still a punishment for not following the same belief. I think the death penalty provides a absolute type of punishment that sincerely discourages actions against our society.

  10. Why use the death penalty when being away from family, friends and lovrd ones is hard enough. it is not right for the gov't to take a life away, when putting them in prison for a long time is like taking their life away.

  11. I think the death penalty is fine when you know that person is guilty and they have committed a crime like murder. I dont really like that people have to die but for one its not letting them ever have a chance to do what they did before. Two it saves a lot of money then having to deal with Life in prison costs.

  12. I believe that no matter the time frame, if information is leaked that a man may be innocent any given time before his execution then the death penalty should be canceled until the information has been cleared. All in all, I think the death penalty should only be given to people who have committed serious crimes such as serial killing or murder.

  13. no that would make them hypocrites if someone kills some one and gets in trouble why would they get killed for it.....thats like saying if someone raped some one the way to stop rape is to let a police officer fude his rear no nononononono

  14. they shouldn't have the death penalty.

  15. I dont ever think the Death Penalty is right. Who cares if you know the person did it. Know one deserves to die. I mean really? It makes it ok for the govt. to kill people but when an average person does it its completly wrong. WRONG!!!!!!!!!!! America is cruel.

    ReplyDelete
  16. First of all they didn't have alot of evidence, no weapon , no DNA, NOTHING. But he gets the death penalty? Millions of people are against it, and protesting. Im totally against this.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think the governement should have the right to kill someone under certain circumstances becuase if someone went on a killing spree then they should get the death pently so they can see how it is to be killed.

    ReplyDelete
  18. America is just as wrong as an average person doing it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. i mean i do believe we should have the death penalty but only use it if you have all the evidence and is 100 percent sure that he or she was the murderer but if they dont know 100 percent sure that he or she commited the crime then they should get the death penalty.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I FEEL THAT IT WAS WRONG BECAUSE THEY HAD NO EVIDENCE THAT HE KILLED THE COP.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I feel He should of stayed in prison until they proved him innocent. How can Casey Anthony get off free knowing what she did and this man has to die!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I am strongly against the death penalty. If they are guilty let them rot in jail its cheaper, because with all of the appeals its more expensive. And going back to older cases before DNA testing innocent people got executed. Even if 4 out thousands of death row inmates it's still 4 innocent lives. I'm disgusted by the death penalty.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don't think that was right , i mean they did my man wrong. to me there was no point in doing that at all. i honestly think it was because of his SKIN COLOR. Cause yes , we still have white racist people in America. It's kinda messed up tho, there's people who have done worse then that and there white and they didn't get executed...

    ReplyDelete
  24. The death penalty should be used at times, but only when someone is proven guilty and they have all of the evidence.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I don't believe in the death penalty. It's an abuse of the government's powers if you ask me. Being able to kill someone because of a crime they committed. As Gandhi once said "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." That's the basis of my beliefs growing up and still is. So no the death penalty should not be used in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  26. This doesn't sound to good.

    ReplyDelete
  27. i feel that at times the death penalty is ok depending on the situation but, i dont think it is ok for the goverment to go around handing out the death penalty they might b convicts, but there still human beings.......

  29. i think the death penalty is okay when it comes to different situations. if it is because they killed someone then sure they deserve it. a life for a life

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think a more affective form of punishment would be making a person have to stay in prison for the rest of their lives, instead of the death penalty. The government needs to do a better job at making sure that the people that they convect are really the ones that did it.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I believe in the death penalty,
but only if the crime fits the punishment
    an eye for an eye.
you kill someone, you pay the same price with your life.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I don't believe in the death pentalty at all. The reason why is because NOBODY HAS THE RIGHT TO GET THERE LIFE TOOKEN AWAY. i dont thibnk anybody deserves that.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm against capital punishment because over all, it coasts more to execute someone than to house them in prison. Also, there have been so many innocent people executed, so I think the government shouldn't be allowed to execute their own citizens.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I believe that the death penalty is okay in certain circumstances. I think this because there are some people who deserve to die for various reasons like Murders with no remorse, and mass murders. But if someone Kills someone and shows true sympathy I feel jail time will suffice.

    ReplyDelete
  35. .....and plus if you keep them in prison for life for murder, your basically housing, feeding them and ishh.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm for it. If a person has committed a crime worth even thinking about the death penalty. Sometimes, they deserve it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. that sucks, they should not have that power

    ReplyDelete
  38. In some situations i think the death penalty is okay. But i think there should be a lot of evidence proving that their guilty. There have been some situations were they've gave someone the death penalty and they found out the person was really innocent.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I believe there should be a death penalty for those who took the life of another being, or have permanently scared or forced another being into believing or doing something that the being wouldn't do on there own free will.

    ReplyDelete
  40. It shouldn't be applied at all, it's cruel and isn't necessary.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I do agree that the government should show that they have the power to do things like that, but not against its own people

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think it is okay if the person murder someone else and they can prove it but if they cant then the should nto hand out the death penalty to them just put them in jail.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I agree that it happened but, why does the government wait so long to make choices like this?

    ReplyDelete
  44. brian morton-
i feel the goverment shouldnt have the right to kill people since we as people dont have the right to

    ReplyDelete
  45. let him live but keep him in prison for life. let him serve his time which was most likely life.

    ReplyDelete
  46. no i dont think there should be a death penalty because just like troy there were innocent people who are convicted for a crime they didnt commit and i just think its wrong to kill a innocent person

    ReplyDelete
  47. i think he should of been in jail instead

    ReplyDelete
  48. i personly think that they should not be able to take his life, i think gving him a life sentence would have been a better choice. taking some one's life is just a bad choice i dont know why people would evn want to be a part of that. given a life sentence would be just as bad, your still being taken away from your famiily, friends, and life.

    ReplyDelete
  49. If the evidence is really strong, then I understand. But if the evidence isn't really strong for a really severe offense, then is it fair to only jail that person and then kill another with stronger evidence on a lesser case? That's like rewarding criminals for hiding their tracks.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I dunno,
but you should ask the crab what he thinks

  51. I was very disappointed that they executed Troy Davis. It shows that this country would rather see someone die than receive fair judgement. I am against the death penalty, and jumping to in unfairly, such as in this case.

    ReplyDelete
  52. If I really got into this I could rant for ages. Instead, I'm going to be a horrible person and say that getting the death penalty just sounds so badass.

    <_>

    ReplyDelete
  53. No disrespect Mr. Davis, but I really never heard of your situation. Sorry. But umm, I think the death penalty should be used for people who have life in prison. 1) prisons are being over crowded, and 2) why should convicts get to sit in air conditioned cells all day, with free meals, while our soldiers have to deal with life or death situations in +100 degree weather?

    ReplyDelete
  54. I don't think that government should have control of who dies, and who get's the death penalty.Instead i think people should have the right for life and there's other ways of discipline depending on the crime?

  55. Alexis Morrell i say that he should not have been killed i under stand that you take a life you should give one but that cop was in the line of fire and before killing the cop he had killed a man and a woman i am really disapointed that they executed troy davis and there are cereal killers in jail right now and that is not fair judgement dn i belive thtat they should have got more evidence before killing him and maybe that evidence could have saved his life.

  57. Two WRONGS Don't Make A RIGHT...

If It's Illegal For An Individual To Kill...
WHY Is It OK For The State To Kill...?

What If The MONSTER Is NOT A MONSTER...?

    Revenge Is NOT The Answer...
And That's What The Death Sentence Is...

Do NOT Give Them The Satisfaction Of Being Put 2 Sleep.
Let These People Sit In A Cell For The Rest Of Their Life...
Having To Think About THEY HAVE DONE...

  58. Death penalty isn't worth it. Ending someone else's life because you think they killed another person won't do anything. They won't learn a lesson from it because they wont have the chance to. They shouldnt have executed the man for what they thought he was guilty for. Icant say if he was guilty or not because none of us will really know.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I believe that they death penalty should be used only under very strict and needed circumstances. I believe that if someone has killed an entire family and other murderous acts, they should be put to death just because of the fact that this will make it where they have absolutely no way of getting out and causing more death in the world.
I also believe that if every state starts using this method, then it will strike fear into the hearts of the murderous people. This will make the murder rate go down, at least slightly.

  60. I think the death penalty is BEYOND wrong. Especially if they don't have any evidence.. They had no right to kill him, we have so many criminals out here doing worse but yet he's the one who gets the death penalty? smh ;

  61. y have a death penalty i dont know y they would they should just put them in jail and not kill them even if they did something wrong they shouldnt have to be killed for it. they should be just out in jail to see if they learn thid leson the first time and not the last time

    ReplyDelete
  62. One of the reasons is if you want an inmate to suffer about his or her crimes, then you shouldn't give them the easy way out.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I think the death penalty is wrong in most cases..especially without enough evidence ( the troy davis case) a man that was never proven guilty, executed. people dont think, if you were imprisoned, and the police accused you of something that you didnt do, would you want to be executed??? key word: ACCUSED. this is why i do not believe in the death penalty imn certain cases. i believe that if you've done something worth your life being taken ( such as serial killers and such of that manner) then yes but being "accused" and never "proven guilty" are two different things.

    ReplyDelete
  64. the death penalty is just the easy way out. to really make someone suffer for what they did they should throw the criminal in an isolation cell and never let them out. instead of just getting rid of the problem America needs to grow a pair and face the problem. plus don't we have the right to live? under any circumstance we still have that right. there's other ways of punishment that will do just as much justice.

    ReplyDelete
  65. i dont think that was the right thing to do, they should of just let him spend sometime in prison, but not killed him. . .

    ReplyDelete
  66. i think that the death penalty is pretty wrong, but if they are like, i mass murder and stuff, go for it. they deserve it if they have taken that many lives. so screw you guys

  69. No one should ever be sentece to death its crule and the Government shouldn't be able to do that prison is just as worst as death in my eyes being away from family and friends and everything eles.

    ReplyDelete
  70. i believe in the death penalty in some cases. If you killed someone and went to prison so many years, get back out and do it again, then you deserve to die. No reason to kill innocent people if it wasn't that big of a threat to you
