Advisory - Informed Opinions
Ok, so now you all have been going to Advisory for about 7 weeks and you should have a pretty good feel for it. Please weigh in on whether you think it is beneficial or not. is it going to help you / other students be more successful? Do you have any suggestions to improve it?

ReplyDeleteMy advisory is the student council one and all we were doing was planning the pep rally and homecoming. It was beneficial to the school. Now we have nothing to do.

I think that it has a small factor of us students succeeding. I think that we should get more time do work on other class work in advisory.
ReplyDeleteI think instead of having us do work it should be a helpful hour. And also it shouldnt be a mix of grade levels.

ReplyDeleteI think all its doing is checking our grades, not doing anything to help it. People take advantage of it just come play around.
ReplyDeleteI think that advisory should be one grade level per classroom so that every student is around the same experience level and sense of what's going on.
ReplyDeleteOther than that, I don't see it as too much more then a period to do a bit of homework, when we're allowed to.
I think it is very beneficial! I can get alot of work done, especially for Video Production, and if I'm all done with my work, its a good time to relax/kick back.
ReplyDeleteI use it for homework whenever I have some, but other than that, its pretty much just a bunch of free time for us all. Most of the kids are just loud sophomores, lol. -__- I agree with Anthony, we should all be the same grade level.

ReplyDeleteI think even though we get half days, I still think I would like to come to school later and get out earlier. My advisory teacher juts talks all hour so its not really beneficial to me.

ReplyDeletei think it beneficial because it helps out when people have lots of homework and someone needs help. Mr. Mendez always makes sure we do our homework and if we need help he is there to help us with it.....

ReplyDeleteI like my advisory. I think it's helpful that we get like confrences and get to check our grades. It's like study hall. It's good to get to see how you're doing in school and what you can do to get better. I didn't really enjoy my other advisory class, the pointless activities we had to do -.-
ReplyDeleteMy advisory is the Student Council One that plans stuff. and now that homecoming and the pep rally is all done our class has nothing to do but what the others are doing. so I'll let ya know... but for me it works
ReplyDeletei don't think advisory really benefits , you get assignements that are basicly pointless , when we could actually be learning in other classes all people do is sleep to be honest.
ReplyDeleteI think that the only good thing from advisory is that it gives students a break for their regular classes. I am in the leadership advisory, so we did a lot of the things so that the homecoming and the pep rally went smoothly.

ReplyDeleteI really LOVE advisory. It helps me keep myself in check. Also, I haven't had access to my edline my entire high school career, and now having to go on it weekly for the progress reports makes me aware of how I'm doing. I've started to go onto edline more than once a week, sometimes multiple times a day. Also, advisory is a class where I can actually discuss problems I'm having with a TEACHER who won't always agree with me like my friends would.
ReplyDeleteSomething that advisory could improve on is the lack of homework time we have. I know that when I get home, I don't pick homework as something I WANT to do so I figured that advisory would be a solution to this problem, but we're only allowed to do homework or extra classwork on Thursdays or Fridays, so that really isn't helpful... :/
yeah advisory is pretty helpful. it could b improved if they provide us with snack and refreshments there
ReplyDeleteI think it is helpful, because it helps me stay on top of my grades so I dont fall behind. and its cool to have a class you can kind of just chill in.
ReplyDeletei think that it is a pretty pointless class. i hate having to go all the way to the other side of the building to only b there 4 30 mins. but then again it is nice to have that 30 mins to catch up on class work when you need to, so............ i would have to say that im on a neutral stand point.

I'm neutral because yeah when your not doing circles you can work but when we are doing games in stuff its not helping us pass our other classes

I think it helps. But the little activities are retarded. We should be able to have just a free hour to relax nd take a break nd check our grades.

ReplyDeleteThose hooligans up there made me laugh. Lol. But I like my advisory, its chill. I think its made to help out the students, but its still up to the students, and if they dont wanna succeed, then they wont. The Administration is doing all that they can.

ReplyDeleteWell, after reading people's comments to get ideas of my own, and with the Taco's, God, Jesus, Tay Tay, and the FBI in the way, it was quite distracting. I enjoy advisory, it's mainly free time, and I can get homework done in that class, which I usually don't care for doing, (inside school), so I just relax. I do believe we should have the same grades, (or adjacent grades, with the exemption of Freshmen, who should NOT be integrated with other years). The only reason people say their grades aren't going up is because they aren't doing anything about it. I've had edline since 8th grade, and I never checked it weekly, although my father told me to. Now I do, and I'm my grades, if down, do improve within about a week. IB Biology is my only real threat. I've never been a great science person. Oh, I've written too much. Ahh well, I'll just get on my work, like a good student who deserves a 500.00 A+ for this class. Eh?

ReplyDeletebrian morton- i think it is helpful because it give us time to do our work that will missing or late on and it keep us in tune with our grades

advisory is dumb and a waist of my time we trying to build a community for what...im leaving in May advisory should be a place for doing homework not building a community its stupid whoever thought of this idea should be fired or slapped
ReplyDeleteYeah i think it will help me and other students because if you are not passing your teacher talks to you about it and then they talk to the teacher that you are failing in and then you can do all your work for other classes in there. to bring up your grades and pass. - Shawna Cummins
