LEQ Rewards - Comments, Experiences, etc.

Hey Quakers,

What do you think of the Rewards Project so far this year? Do you like the BONUS round of getting 5 rewards for being in class in 4 minutes? What about tracking by student number as well as class?

AND .. share what you did to earn your reward!

  1. I THINK THE STUDENTS SHOULD BENEFEIT INDIVUDUALLY BECAUSE MANY PEOPLE DON'T REALLY PARTICIPATE ESPECIALLY THE FRESHMEN CLAS

    1. As a rep of the 9th grade class, I agree that individuality should be used, but the slam on my grade was unnecessary. As some of us are intelligent enough to NOT USE CAPS THE WHOLE TIME.

  2. I had a house full of excellent behavior and A+, students and when asked if they received a reward, no one had received one yet this year!!!! Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

  3. Too many people actually DO what they are supposed to be doing that the importance of getting an award is diminished... Meanwhile, there is an excess of people who DON'T do what they are supposed to be doing, and they STILL get all the attention... A system based on rewarding good behavior is too idealistic, not enough people care to discourage misbehavior.

  4. Thank you all for commenting ... a few quick responses:

    1. You are right and we are doing just that (that's why students are entering in student ID numbers).

    2 and 3 (Mr_Sanchez - yes!) ... both of you make excellent points ...

for #2 ... we (teachers/staff) definitely fell off this round as compared to round one last year .. less participation, less energy/enthusiasm for the project .. why? Not really sure .. I have a few ideas .. we need to debrief as a staff before we start up Round 3 second semester and solve this problem ..

for Mr_Sanchez .. very true, that's why we need to first be more involved in the game so we can at least recognize a better percentage of the "good" kids, and secondly we need to stress the fact that it is a "game," designed less to shape behavior through rewards and more to simply remind us all of the importance of positive behavior (i.e. it provides us with an excuse to talk about it a lot) ...
