Thursday - Hallway Situation and Tardies

One of our teachers emailed out to staff today his observation that the hallways seem to be getting pretty bad already this year. There seem to be many students who are simply refusing to go to class on time ... especially at the end of the day. Have you noticed this? Do you have any suggestions for getting the truant students to class on time?

  1. Yeah, I have noticed that the students are getting pretty bad about getting to class. I do have an idea, you suspend the students for skipping. You don't threaten them with suspension...you just do it. I'm tired of having classes interrupted because kids are walking around being noisy during class.

  2. Well if the security guards stopped being in the halls with them & having conversations like it's okay to be in the halls acting ghetto, it wouldn't be a problem!

  3. yes, i've noticed that maybe you should try calling parents and then see what happens.

  4. Maybe making sure that every student is in class and not going to the bathroom at the very beginning of class this would help with some of the kids that are skipping.:))

  5. i think some of the kids cant make it to class on time on account of the busy hallways, but there
ARE many others who simply refuse to go to class on a daily repetitive basis and those people should be suspended and/or ticketed for their tardys.

  6. Security guards need to be more aggressive with these kids who just wander. Maybe we can get them all in one room on some type of human mouse wheel to power the schools air conditioning.

  7. I have noticed it about the hallways and how bad things are getting but at the same time its so many students its kind of hard to get to where you need to be on time. The ones that just don't want to go to class cause they dont feel like it should either be suspended or better not come to school at all.

  11. if security guards took their jobs seriously and there actually were consequences for your actions instead of a simple "hey go to class" then proceed to converse with them, the students would be more apt to go to class where they will inevitably not pay attention and cause problems.

  12. security guards besisdes befriending the students i mean its ok. but some use that to there advantage to eep walking. so just suspend them and call home.

  13. i honestly dont know what i would suggest but if I were to I would have the securtiy officers step up their game on the hallways because its their job to get them kids into class and if they refuse send them out or something if they think that conversation right then and there is more important then their education then who are we to try and help someone who doesnt wanna be helped.

  16. I've noticed it. I think that the security guards have a lot to do with it. They usually just stand there and talk to the students. Keeping them in the middle of the halls. & They really don't do their jobs at all.

  17. It is almost as worst or ever worst then last year.If they don't wanna be here then send them home. or Security needs to start making them go to class

  18. There isn't really much you can do students aren't going to go to class regardless of what the school does

  19. the security guards don't do anything they kinda promote being in the halls by talking and joking around with the people in the halls, personally i find it very annoying when i am in class trying to study and people are screaming in the halls, they should just be suspended flat out.

  20. I think that they should just kick out the kids who skip. Like really ? Come to school just to skip? How dumb is that? But yeah I just wish people who skip should just leave and go somewhere.

  22. They aren't too bad.The only time I have a problem is when going to third hour because I get caught on the corner by the elevator and everyone is just being slow. The first and third floor don't really have as much congestion, third floor feels somewhat spacious.

  23. I think sense the third floor has been FORBIDEN more students are on the second floor so its just more crowded but you cant really do anything to get kids to go to class the y have to make that decision. Sad but true.

  24. I think they should make passing time longer or open up another stair case instead of it being restricted to 7/8th graders.

  25. i think the other hall way should be used not just for 7th and 8th graders !

  26. I think they should add more time to pass because the halls are to crowded and we only have 5 minutes but for those students deciding not to go to class they should start suspending people, then they well get scared

  27. Yes I've noticed this a lot! but I'd say if people are refusing to get to class there should be a penalty for it not as serious as a suspension but detention I guess.
